Marlins swim to gold
WAINWRIGHT — The Red Deer Marlins Swim Club captured the team title at the regional D championships during the weekend.
The Marlins won 67 medals, including 34 gold, 22 silver and 11 bronze.
Four members of the Marlins — Amy Andrew, Sefrah Daviduck, Erika Stewart and Sydney Wall — all won four gold.
Andrew won the girls’ 13-14 year-old 50-metre freestyle in 29.21 seconds and 100m freestyle in one minute 4.03 seconds and the 13-and-over 400m freestyle in 5:07.73 and 200m freestyle in 2:25.12.
Daviduck took gold in the girls’ 12-and-under 400m freestyle in 5:39.31 and 200m freestyle in 2:41.20 and the 11-12 year-old 50m freestyle in 33.30 seconds and 100m freestyle in 1:12.93.
Stewart captured the girls’ 17-and-over 100m breaststroke in 1:28.02, 100m backstroke in 1:17.75, 100m freestyle in 1:07.90 and 200m Individual Medley in 2:51.39.
Wall won the girls’ 15-16 year-old 100m freestyle in 1:07.59, 50m freestyle in 30.87 seconds, 100m breaststroke in 1:29.05 and 50m butterfly in 33.70 seconds.
Rebecca Miller won three gold and a bronze. She won the 13-14 year-old 50m butterfly in 32.35 seconds and 200m I.M. in 2:42.43 and the 14-and-under 100m butterfly in 1:14.12. She finished third in the 100m freestyle.
Kahn Daviduck won the boys’ 13-14 year-old 200m I.M. in 2:52.90 and 100m breaststroke in 1:26.44 while taking second in the 100m backstroke and 50m butterfly.
Hayley Goring and Brendan Laing were also double gold medalists.
Goring won the girls’ 17-and-over 50m butterfly in 38.11 seconds and 50m freestyle in 32.71 seconds while finishing second in the 100m backstroke and open 800m freestyle.
Laing captured the boys’ eight-and-under 50m freestyle in 47.07 seconds and 100m I.M. in 2:05.72 while finishing second in the 25m butterfly.
Quinn Daviduck won the 15-and-over boys’ 100m butterfly in 1:16.00 and took second in the 50m butterfly and third in the 50 and 100m freestyle.
Jennifer Engler won the girls’ 15-and-over 100m butterfly in 1:18.27 and was second in the 15-16 year-old 200m I.M. and 50m butterfly.
Jillian Engler was first in the girls’ 13-14 year-old 100m breaststroke in 1:24.52 and third in the 50m butterfly.
Jane Gosling captured the girls’ eight-and-under 25m butterfly in 26.75 seconds and was second in the 100m I.M.
Madison Schulhauser won the girls’ eight-and-under 25m freestyle in 21.07 seconds and was second in the 50m freestyle.
Catherine Alcorn took silver in the 13-14 year-old girls’ 200m I.M. and 100m backstroke, 14-and-under 100m butterfly and 13-and-over 400m freestyle.
Adrian Christ was second in the 13-14 year-old 50 and 100m freestyle and third in the 13-and-over 200m freestyle and 13-14 year-old 100m breaststroke. Geordan Andrew placed second in the 14-and-under 100m butterfly and third in the 12-and-under 400m freestyle.
Kelsey Miller was third in the 9-10 year-old 25m butterfly.
The Marlins also struck gold in four relay finals — girls’ 13-14 year-old 200m medley (2:18.41) and 200m freestyle (2:07.94) and girls’ 17-and-over 200m medley (2:22.43) and 200m freestyle (2:08.96).
They also won five silver and three bronze in the relay events.
